The Best Time to Book Your Newborn Photography Session
As a professional newborn photographer based in Newton, NJ, one of the most common questions I get is, "When should I book my newborn session?" The short answer: As early as possible! Ideally, during your second trimester. But let’s dive deeper into why early booking is important and what to consider when scheduling your session.
Why Booking Early Matters
1. Ensures Availability
Newborn photography is a specialized service, and I only take a limited number of newborn sessions per month to ensure each client receives the best experience. Booking early secures your spot, especially during peak seasons.
2. Best Timeframe for Newborn Photos
Newborns are best photographed within the first 7-21 days after birth. During this time, babies are still very sleepy and can be gently posed in those adorable, curly positions. If you wait too long, they become more alert and less flexible for traditional newborn poses.
3. Prepares You for the Experience
Booking ahead gives us time to plan your session, including selecting a style (studio or in-home lifestyle), color schemes, props, and special requests. It also allows you to feel less rushed and more prepared.
When Should You Reach Out to Book?
The best time to book is during your second trimester, around 20-28 weeks of pregnancy. This ensures you get on my calendar well before your due date, and we can make adjustments as needed once your baby arrives.
If you've already had your baby and didn’t book in advance—don’t worry! Reach out as soon as possible, and I’ll do my best to fit you in.
What If My Baby Arrives Early or Late?
Since due dates can be unpredictable, I schedule newborn sessions with flexibility in mind. When you book, I’ll pencil in your estimated due date and adjust the session timing once your baby is born.
